The Day 1 Mission

The work for our mission trip began today, and Roland and I were assigned to Magnolia Community Services, an organization that supports developmentally disabled adults. It has beds for 125, and also has day clients. Many of the residential clients have lived there since they were children (decades ago they took in children) and will stay there until they need to move to a nursing home. Below are a few of the pictures I took while there.

Assignment #1: Bingo with some of the clients

Jessie (who is obviously number 1 and a winner), Roland and Neemika. Jessie knew quite a lot about football. Notre Dame is his favorite college team. They are all rooting for LSU to beat Alabama.

Playing bingo was so much fun with this crowd. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and they played to win!  Some of them needed help with their numbers which we were happy to do.

Assignment #2:

Their big Gala fundraiser is tomorrow night, and we helped 2 of the women on the planning committee with whatever they needed us to do. They are expecting about 500 people tomorrow night.

Some centerpieces for tables that are for the $1000+ donors. The Blooming Magnolia sign is for the grab bag purchases. There is a $25 group and a $50 group. A number is chosen off of a board, and that is the number of the gift basket you have purchased.
